Winchester, NH - Monadnock Speedway hosted their final event this past Saturday as
thousands of fans gathered to say farewell to the 2005 race season. Champion Scott
Zilinski added another season win as he topped the Late Models. Strictly Stock John
Lavoie “the tank” was in victory lane along with Ricky Labrecque in the Mini Stocks.
Darren Jacobs, unofficial at press time, won the 4-cylinder enduro 100-lap event.
Randy Rameau dominated the Full Size enduro feature. Josh Houle and John O’Dea were
crowned the enduro champions for 2005.
The mini stocks rolled onto the track led by Anthony Kumiega. By lap two, Labrecque
took the lead followed by Mike Johnson, Kumiega, David Pratt and Brian Sheehan.
Labrecque continued to show the way as Pratt moved into second. Toby Wells ran
third. Adam Charrette and Ron Normandin fought for fourth. With twenty laps in the
book, Labrecque remained the leader. Normandin moved in on Wells for the third spot
challenge. With ten laps to go, back to back cautions slowed the field. On the
restart, Labrecque felt the pressure of Wells as the second third place runner of
Pratt retired to the pits. At the end, it was Labrecque collecting his fourth win
of the season followed by Wells, Normandin, Mike Patenaude and Shawn Doubleday.
Twenty-six Strictly Stocks made the field for their 35-lap feature event.
Pole-sitter, Rick Bly brought the pack to the green. By lap one, Mike Duquette took
the lead leaving Bly in a battle with Ken Springer and Chris Bergeron. John Hall
sat in fifth. By lap six, the leaders already approached lap traffic as Dan
Frederick moved into the fourth spot. On lap fifteen, a caution came out as several
cars made their way to the pit area for repair. The field went green for one more
lap when once again the caution flag was displayed. On lap twenty, the field
settled down as Duquette continued to lead. John Lavoie moved into second while
Frederick, Petrie and Springer followed. With the final lap shown, the leaders came
around for the checkers as a car let go and dumped fluid in the high-banked turn
three. At the wave of the checkers, Lavoie avoids the fluid to take the win.
Petrie, Frederick, Duquette and Springer followed for top five.
Jeff Plakias brought the full field of Late Models to the green as the caution was
displayed before the first lap was completed. On the restart, Plakias continued to
lead as Shawn Stone, Ed Lofland, Aaron Fellows and Todd Patnode followed. The top
five ran wheel to wheel as Patnode moved into third by lap ten. By lap fifteen, the
leaders contended with lap traffic as Plakias began to feel the pressure of Patnode.
Stone made his way to the pit area for a flat. Ed Brehio made his way to the top
five passing Fellows for third. At the half-way mark, Patnode was shown the new
leader as Scott Zilinski moved into second. Brehio, Plakias and Fellows followed
for top five. As laps winded down, the top two runners ran wheel to wheel while
Jason Stone knocked on the door for fifth. With ten laps to go, Zilinski made the
pass on Patnode for the lead as the top leaders safely get around lap cars. On the
final lap, Patnode attempted to take the lead but was denied as Zilinski took the
checkers. Patnode, Ed Brehio Jr, Aaron Fellows and Jason Stone rounded out the top
five.
Charlene McDonough was the early leader in the 100-lap 4-cylinder enduro feature
event. Within a few laps, Russ Hersey took over the lead. On lap twenty-two,
Hersey went to the pit area leaving the lead to Matt Nelson. Nelson would continue
to lead until lap thirty-seven when he gets into another car and spins. Darren
Jacobs became the new leader followed by Dick Houle, Heath Renaud and Josh Houle.
By half-way, Renaud, and Houle battled it out for second. With twenty-five laps to
go, Houle ran in second as Louie Maher passed Houle for fourth. Ten laps to go,
Jacobs and Houle battle for the lead while Nelson moved back into the top five in
third. At the checkers, it was Jacobs followed by Houle, Nelson, Maher and Dick
Houle. At press time, the 4-cylinder enduro winner is unofficial.
The Full Size rolled onto the track as AJ Kristolaitis brought the field to the
green. Ben Byrne wasted no time to take the lead in the early laps as Paul Smith,
Randy Rameau and John O’Dea were working their way up from deep in the field. At
the half-way mark, John Odea took the lead as Rameau, Smith, Byrne and Bowman
followed. Within five laps, Rameau took over the lead. At half-way, Rameau
dominated as O’Dea sat alone in second. James Kirkland moved into the third spot
followed by Yagmin and Byrne. With twenty to go, O’Dea felt the pressure of
Kirkland as lap traffic began to play a factor. At the end, it was Rameau placing
the field laps down to win his second 100-lap feature event. O’Dea, Kirkland, Dan
Yagmin and John Yagmin followed in the top five.
